Space reduction between a turbine and a wheel mantle

Various challenges await the hydroelectric industry. Risks caused by corrosion, erosion and general wear are everywhere. Metallitech collaborates with industry pioniers, in order to reduce or avoid those problems and contribute to increasing the components longevity.

Metalic coating of a turbine

In operation since 1999, the Chaudière Hydroelectric Power Plant produces 116 651 MWh per year. Recently, the Metallitech team was commissioned to rebuild to specifications a turbine and its housing. In order to do this, a metallic coating was applied on the whole of the Kaplan Turbine. The turbine’s five blades were reloaded by welding at the power plant.

Industrial coating for wheel mantles

Next, at Metallitech, another type of coating was applied inside a wheel mantle. The Chaudiere power station can now benefit from a high quality coating for its installations, and a better resistance to corrosion, erosion and wear. The fruit of this work allowed Innergex to regain the turbine efficiency that was lost because of wear.
